Hall 8 was established in 1994 to meet the accommodation needs of students in Nanyang Technological University. However, it was only on 3rd August 1997, that Hall 8 was officially opened by Mr Lim Hng Kiang, then Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs. This opening ceremony also saw the launch of the time capsule. On 3rd August 2007, Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry opened the time capsule again.

Hall 8 was part of the action in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games as it was one of the designated accommodation for the athletes and sport officials.

Hall 8 is made up of blocks 41/42/43 and 44 and each block has their respective air conditioned TV lounges and patios.
